ATTENTION: Name change!

Me changing the name of this blog is long over due. It has been two years since I have lived in the great state of Vermont and I bum a lot more things than just trout. Needless to say "Vermont Trout Bum" is a very misleading name for this lackluster fly fishing blog based out of Montana. So without further ado, drum roll please (Insert drum roll here)........ The new name for my blog is

STRIP. TWITCH. PAUSE.

STP

This name was inspired by my passion for tossing streamers for big fish and one of my favorite retrieving techniques for this style of fishing. Just remember, change is good.

Fishing, Fireball Whiskey, Tombstone pizza, Rap battles, PBR and Good friends

6 am Saturday morning coffee and breakfast in hand, 8 brave souls departed for the mighty Missouri river. The weather was calling for sunny conditions saturday with winds around 30 mph and gust as high as 45mph. Sunday's weather called for snow and temperatures around 33 degrees. These predictions would have made the average angler stay home but not Where the water leadsBum TroutFalse Casts and Flat Tires, Garret and I. We were all eager to get to one of the best winter trout fisheries in Montana and maybe catch a midge hatch? Early Saturday the wind was blowing fairly hard but around noon it calmed down and the fishing was consistently good all day. Saturday night we all got pretty bamboozled around the campfire. Im pretty sure Bob knows every Michael Jackson song and he is a hell of a rapper too. Sunday morning was overcast with temps in the mid to upper 30's and we got into some good midge fishing on top. All the guys in Garrets raft(Garret,Bob and I) were able to land multiple fish on dry flys and nymphs before a big storm rolled in. All in all it was a great two days with lots of laughs, good fishing and great friends. I already see I wrote way to much so I will stop and give you something cool to look at. Here are some pictures from the weekend.

B*** on the Bitterroot

Today I got out on the water after my statistics lab, it was slow but I caught a few nice Valentines day trout and a surprise bass that couldn't resist my purple and olive streamer.

It's Friday already?

Its really friday? I find myself asking this question a lot lately, not a bad thing by any means, it is the weekend right? On the other hand, I wish this chaotic fly fishing addicted college student janitor life would slow down once in a while. This weekend thats my goal, slow down.. I have a few homework assignments that NEED to be done by monday but other than that Im gonna take the weekend off from fishing and just slow down. The last couple weeks have been crazy between going to class, fishing, homework, social life and Work. Its time for a laid back relaxed weekend with some fly tying and maybe beer drinking. Have a good weekend!

Heres some pictures from the past week of fishing.

Cheers!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!

Today one of the most influential people in my life and the person who first taught me how to hunt and fish gets another year older. Happy birthday dad, hope you have a great day. We may be 3000 miles away but every time I go out on the river you are there with me just like back when we used to go fishing up at the "secret spot" and you would let me drive the truck down the old dirt road on the way home. Sure sometimes I fell in the water and scared all the fish away or my brother would toss his worm in the hole I was fishing for 20 minutes and pull a brook trout out first cast. But thats beside the point, those memories will stick with me for a lifetime and I am glad they were with you. Thanks for being the best dad I could have asked for!!

I Love You!
